This was my mother's old maternity dress! The seams were weak and falling apart, and there were holes at the shoulder as it had been left hanging for a good while. I used some blue fabric samples my grandmother gave me for the waistband and a matching mask, and added a lining with a baby blue tulle ruffle.

I'm a full-time teacher who enjoys sewing and making things and is very passionate about environmentalism!
I started sewing when I was in secondary school (my prom dress, alterations/upcycles etc), largely to save money and because my grandmother, mother and aunt all sew! I had plenty of guidance from them. As I got more environmentally conscious it became more of a choice to thrift/upcycle because of the environmental impact. It also ensures you never have on the same thing as everyone else, so that's a plus! I took a fashion design module in university, and also worked in wardrobe for stage shows in my gap year (although that was mostly minor repairs!).
